TRADE: Artyukhin to Atlanta

E-mail Print

The Atlanta Thrashers have acquired hulking Russian winger Evgeny Artyukhin from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenseman Nathan Oystrick and a conditional draft pick in 2011.

It's been rumoured for a while that the Ducks were looking to add a depth defenseman although Oystrick has played the entire season in the AHL.  In 2008-09, Oystrick totaled 12 points in 53 games with the Thrashers.

Artyukhin, meanwhile, gives the Thrashers some much needed bulk up front.  Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle has not been happy with Artyukhin for taking too many bad penalties, and has benched him for some games this season.  Despite his size, Artyukhin is a very good skater with raw skills who may benefit from a new opportunity.  Artyukhin had 4 goals and 9 points in 37 games with the Ducks this season.

The thing I don't understand is how Clarke
