SchoolYourPool.com Fantasy Hockey is pleased to announce the launching of our very own house-hosted fantasy hockey league!  APPLY NOW!

SYPHL (SYP Signature Hockey League) is a dynasty league for the most serious hockey fans.  Twenty teams boasting logo's of past NHL and WHA franchises will battle head-to-head to determine the yearly champion.  The league features pro and farm rosters and will hold an inaugural 35-round draft with annual Entry Drafts similar to the NHL.

Stat catagories are as follows:

Forwards/Defensemen: Goals, Assists, +/-, Powerplay Points, ShortHanded Points, Game-Winning Goals

Goalies: Wins, Shutouts, GAA, SV%

Looking for those with passion, dedication, and general managing expertise.  A nominal annual fee of $10 is being considered for operational costs, but will be finalised once the ownership groups are in place.

Lots of applicants, and some very solid potential owners.

We will be refining the scoring and league regulations this weekend and an announcement for the league owners will be coming shortly afterwards.

Please expect a 12-round live draft to start the league, followed by an email/message board draft to complete the teams. We should be done well before training camps open.

Hang tight guys, putting the best group of GM's possible together is the toughest (and most important) part of this process because the better the ownership group, the better the league.

Patience. I like how they're going through each candidate carefully and thoroughly so that they can pick the best possible GMs for this league. Good GMs make a good league.

I have one question: Do the people who are chosen as Owners get to choose their teams, or does the SYP Staff decide who gets what team?

i would hope anyone applying will put 100% in, i like the fee also as it weeds out those not really interested....and kids without credit cards! i'd assume they pick the teams but i can't say for sure! heres to hoping for 20 top notch owners who try 100% stick with it, and are good sports! no rush, we have 2 months!

We're putting the final touches on the league constitution and ownership selection.

The plan is/was to make an announcement today of owner selection, date/time of first 12 rounds live draft, and a few other things to kick off the league.

Hoping to get this out today, pending completion. If not, tomorrow.

Sept 8, 2010 - With the number of veteran UFA's still sitting on the market, it's no surprise that Kyle Wellwood has settled for a tryout invite with the Phoenix Coyotes.  While Wellwood has intriguing offensive abilities, he has shown to be both soft and inconsistent in his stints with Toronto and Vancouver.  Wellwood has developed into a fairly decent player in his own end, however, which certainly increases his chances of making the Coyotes as a potential 3rd line forward.  The Coyotes will also be interested in seeing how the creative Wellwood might be able to help their powerplay.
